The Best Penalty Takers In The Premier League

The Premier League has had the pleasure of witnessing a host of incredible penalty-takers since its inception back in 1992. And as a new season begins, each club will ultimately designate a player to take their penalties.

From these individuals, there are a select number in the Premier League who have proven to be the most accomplished from twelve yards and will be hoping to convert as many spot kicks for their respective teams as possible.

Here Are the 7 Best Penalty Takers In The Premier League For 2025

7. Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland has been Manchester City's main penalty-taker since entering the Premier League in 2023. As expected, the elite forward typically strikes the ball hard and low into either corner of the net to deadly effect. He has been unsurprisingly assured in terms of penalties by putting away 40 of his 50 spot kicks for the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.

The Norwegian goal machine’s brilliance from twelve yards has seen him accumulate a conversion rate of 90% to date. In fact, Haaland has missed just one of the 15 penalties he has taken for the Citizens in two full seasons.

6. Bruno Fernandes

Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes became Manchester United's choice from the spot soon after signing for the club back in 2020. He favours slotting away his penalties using a fairly unique ‘hop and jump’ technique (arguably first pioneered within English football by Jorginho) before rolling the ball calmly past the bemused and flailing keeper.

Fernandes has registered a career conversation rate of 90% whilst in Italian football, at Sporting Lisbon and Old Trafford. Of the 60 penalties taken across his club career to date, the Portugal international has scored 50 of them. So far Fernandes has only missed four times whilst in the Premier League. These Bruno Fernandes facts provide greater insight into the talented midfielder.

5. Willian

Willian has been successful from the spot for a number of clubs including the likes of Shakhtar Donetsk, Chelsea and Fulham. He has scored an impressive 11 of the 12 penalties taken throughout a long soccer career. The Brazilian’s general style involves him striking the ball with both accuracy and power into all areas of the net.

The South American playmaker has clocked up a conversion rate of 91.7% across several European leagues including Russia and England. For his current side Fulham, Willian has stepped up to take two penalties at Craven Cottage and has expertly slotted away both chances.

4. João Pedro

João Pedro enjoyed a largely impressive debut season at Brighton where he went on to score numerous goals from open play. He soon became their nominated penalty taker throughout the campaign.

Pedro is a clever striker of the ball from twelve yards and is able to fire home using his side foot or with more force. Pedro boasts a conversion rate of 92.9% and has successfully scored 13 of his 14 penalties for both Watford and Brighton. He has taken a total of ten penalties whilst in the Premier League with The Seagulls and has only missed once.

3. Jean-Philippe Mateta

Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta took on penalty responsibilities for the London club during its 2023/24 season. He has proved incredibly reliable from the spot with an assured and precise style of finishing and a cool head under pressure.

Throughout his club career, he has successfully converted all seven of the penalties faced by various teams across Europe. The Frenchman can therefore claim a superb conversation rate of 100% and also scored all three of his spot kicks for Brighton.

2. Cole Palmer

Following his move from Manchester City, Cole Palmer confidently took on the role of first-choice penalty taker at Chelsea. The young Englishman shows a maturity beyond his years from the spot, regularly stroking the ball into the net and often sending the opponent's goalie the wrong way.

Palmer has converted all 14 of his penalties for both Manchester City and Chelsea in the Premier League so far and will no doubt continue the task for the Blues this campaign. He boasts a brilliant conversion rate of 100% that includes scoring ten out of ten spot kicks whilst at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer facts will give you more insight into the midfield maestro.

1. Pablo Sarabia

Pablo Sarabia is currently Wolverhampton Wanderers' penalty taker and perhaps surprisingly can claim to be the best from twelve yards heading into the new season. The Spanish winger is a precise and efficient striker of the ball and has never faltered when faced with taking a penalty during his career so far.

Sarabia has an overall conversion rate of 100% for both club and country. He has scored all 18 of his penalties for the likes of Sevilla, Sporting CP and Wolves. Whilst in English football, the midfielder has struck two penalty kicks for Wolves and managed to score both efforts.
