Since its inception in 1992, The Premier League has seen its fair share of older players who still performed at the highest levels of the English game into the twilight of their careers.

Many of these veterans remained a notable attacking threat into their senior years with a number even scoring in the Premier League whilst being nearly forty years of age. Who are the oldest goalscorers in Premier League history?

9. Mick Harford

As one of the oldest goal-scorers in Premier League history, Mick Harford played for Premier League sides such as Chelsea, Sunderland, Coventry City, and Wimbledon. He made over 100 appearances in England’s top flight, scoring 21 goals and yet failed to win a single major honour. Harford was 38 years, 1 month and 6 days old when he scored for Wimbledon during a 1-1 draw versus West Ham United in March 1997.



8. Tugay Kerimoglu

Tugay Kerimoğlu is one of the oldest goalscorers in Premier League history. The former Turkish international featured for Blackburn Rovers in England’s top division, appearing a total of 293 times and finding the net on 13 occasions. Aged 38 years, 3 months and 6 days, Tugay struck against Portsmouth in Blackburn Rovers’ 3-2 away defeat during November 2008. Whilst at Ewood Park, he went on to win the League Cup in 2002.

7. Mark Hughes

Among the oldest goalscorers in Premier League history, Mark Hughes played for a host of Premier League teams including Manchester United, Chelsea and Southampton. During his twenty-year spell in the league, Hughes scored over a century of goals in close to 500 matches.



The Welshman was aged 38 years, 4 months and 26 days when he struck against Leicester City as Blackburn Rovers lost 2-1 in March 2002. Hughes won numerous honours including two Premier League titles and four FA Cups.

6. Graham Alexander

As one of the Premier League's age-defying scorers, Graham Alexander played for just one Premier League side which was Burnley, during the 2009/10 season. He made 33 appearances across the campaign, scoring seven goals as Burnley finished 18th in the league. Alexander was 38 years and 6 months old when he scored for Burnley during an impressive 4-1 away win versus fellow relegated club Hull City in April 2010.



5. Stuart Pearce

Stuart Pearce is one of the oldest goalscorers in Premier League history. The England left back featured for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and West Ham United, appearing around 350 times in the league and finding the net on 40 occasions!

Aged 38 years, 7 months and one day, Pearce struck against Southampton in West Ham United’s 3-2 away win in November 2000. Whilst at the City Ground, he went on to win the League Cup twice in both 1989 and 1990.



4. Ryan Giggs

Among the oldest goalscorers in Premier League history, Ryan Giggs played for Manchester United in the English top flight from 1992 until his retirement in 2014. Over the course of two decades in the league, Giggs scored 160 goals across 900 matches along with a record 162 assists.

He was aged 39 years, 2 months and 25 days when hitting the back of the net against Queens Park Rangers as Manchester United won 2-0 in February 2013. The Welsh wizard claimed an incredible 13 Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford.



3. Thiago Silva

As one of the eldest players to score in Premier League history, Thiago Silva played for Chelsea, making his league debut in 2020 and registering 155 appearances whilst scoring nine goals and yet failed to win any major English honours.

He was 39 years, 6 months and 16 days when he scored for Chelsea during a 2-2 away draw versus Sheffield United in April 2024.



2. Dean Windass

Dean Windass holds the second spot as one of the oldest players to score in Premier League history. He featured for Bradford City, Hull City and Middlesbrough within England’s top league, appearing a total of 134 times and finding the net on 23 occasions.

At 39 years 7 months and 21 days, Windass hit the back of the net against Portsmouth in Hull City’s 2-2 draw during November 2008. He failed to win any major honours but did finish as Championship runner-up for the 1998/99 season.



1. Teddy Sheringham

The oldest goalscorer in Premier League history is Teddy Sheringham who played for a host of Premier League teams including Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Portsmouth and West Ham United. During his twenty-five-year stint in theleague, Sheringham scored nearly 180 goals in over 500 matches.

He was aged 40 years, 8 months and 24 days when he struck against Portsmouth as West Ham United won 2-1 in December 2006. Sheringham won several domestic honours including three Premier League titles and an FA Cup in 1999.
