Liverpool manager Arne Slot addressed the media on Friday morning ahead of their Premier League clash against Brentford, expressing no concerns over how defender Jarell Quansah reacted to being substituted at halftime during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Ipswich last weekend.
Slot noted that Quansah’s response was expected for a player in his position. "He reacted in a way you would expect a player to react," Slot said. "I spoke to him immediately after the game, I spoke to him the day after. At the end of that conversation, he asked if he could train on Sunday. So he should have done recovery, but he wanted to train."
However, the Dutchman mentioned that Quansah picked up a minor injury, which prevented him from training on Wednesday. "Unfortunately, on Tuesday, he picked up a bit of an injury, so he couldn't train on Wednesday. We will see if he can train today," Slot explained.
The Liverpool boss also clarified the nature of the feedback he provided to Quansah. "Maybe the language was a problem," Slot said.
"What I said was that he did not lose every duel, but he lost one or two important ones, one of them just before half-time. From what’s been told to me, it sounds like what I said was that he lost every duel."
Regarding the club’s transfer activities, Slot was tight-lipped. "I think you already know the answer. If a deal is done, you will hear from us. We don't speak about transfers or players that are ours," he said.
Slot reaffirmed his trust in the current squad despite not making many new signings. "I trust the team. I've said before, I have inherited a very good team, with young players. We trust them a lot. They proved that they have earned our trust," he added.
As the Merseyside club prepare for their match against Brentford, Slot’s comments highlight his commitment to maintaining harmony and focusing on the strengths of his existing squad.
