Liverpool manager Arne Slot has described the team's start to the 2024-25 season as "positive but not perfect." The Reds currently sit second in the Premier League, just one point behind reigning champions Manchester City.
So far, they’ve played five league matches, winning four—against Ipswich Town (0-2), Brentford (2-0), and Manchester United (0-3)—before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield and securing a 3-0 win over Bournemouth.
"It’s been a positive start, with the small disappointment of losing to Nottingham Forest," Slot admitted in his press conference on Friday. "Losing at home is always tough, especially against a team not typically competing for the top four, but you never know what Forest might do this season."
Reflecting on the team's style of play, he added, "It’s similar to what we’ve seen over the last nine years, which makes sense because the squad is still largely the same as under Jurgen [Klopp]. It might get tougher as the fixtures pile up."
While Slot's reign has begun strongly, with momentum building, he remains cautious about what lies ahead. Discussing their upcoming clash with Wolves, he said, "It’s difficult for me to judge as I wasn’t here last season, and we've only faced teams from the lower half of the table so far. We've scored plenty of goals, but we’ll see how things hold up when the fixtures become more challenging."
On Luis Diaz’s strong start to the season, Slot was optimistic: "A player of his quality will always score goals."
