Arsenal FC boss Arteta on why he brought Jesus to the Emirates and his thoughts on Scottish defender Tierney.
Gabriel Jesus has started life at Arsenal in flying colours.
Mikel Arteta heaped praise on Gabriel Jesus and stated his reasons for bringing the Brazil international to Arsenal.
The former Manchester City striker opened his goalscoring account for the Emirates club 90 seconds into his debut, as he came off the bench at half-time against 1. FC Nurnberg.
He later scored a second to aid Arsenal’s comeback 5-3 pre-season victory on Friday, and after the match, Arteta admitted that he is pleased with the impact Jesus is already making with the Gunners.
“He’s all energy,” Arteta said as Arsena.com quoted. “You see his enthusiasm, he’s always smiling, he’s always talking to his teammates and apart from that I think he brings a different level of desire and commitment and enthusiasm, so I think it’s really good.
“That’s why we brought him here,” Arteta continued, “to put the ball in the back of the net and obviously for his confidence and for him to believe in what we are doing I think it’s really important and he’s settled really well.
“I know him really well because I worked with him before and I know that there’s not going to be any issue there.”
Tierney is in ‘good condition
On left-back Kieran Tierney, who was withdrawn in the first half after lasting only 30 minutes of the friendly in Germany, the Spaniard said: “He’s really good. He’s been training really good. Obviously, he’s been out for over three months now so we wanted to give him a proper warm-up, play the first half an hour, and then get him out.
“So he was in good condition and there are no issues there.”
