Azpilicueta joins 500 club at Stamford Bridge following Chelsea's Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Right-back Cesar Azpilicueta has expressed his pride at reaching 500 appearances for Chelsea Football club, saying ‘I feel very honoured to reach this number.’

The Spanish defender Azpilicueta come off the bench in the Blues' away goalless draw against Liverpool at Anfield to join a list of true elites at Stamford Bridge.

Azpilicueta, who joined the west London side back in 2012, is now sixth on the list following ex-skippers Ron Harris [795 appearances], Peter Bonetti [729], John Terry [717], Frank Lampard [648], and John Hollins [592], becoming the first non-Englishman to reach that feat [500] for the Blues.

‘I feel very honoured to reach this number,’ Azpilicueta said after the game as chelseafc.com quoted. ‘I could only imagine it when I first joined the club in 2012. The memories that I have are amazing and I try to enjoy every day and to keep improving.

‘I know how tough it is to be successful in football and for me to come to a club like Chelsea after them winning the Champions League, I wanted to create my own history but I could not make it without everybody in the club, without my team-mates over the years, the coaches, members of the staff who had confidence and they trusted me.

‘I say thank you for that and I am on the pitch every day trying to make the most of it because it is a privilege to play for Chelsea and be the captain of this club and I will keep giving my best.’
