Chelsea Football Club have held initial talks with Germany center-back Antonio Rudiger about a new long-term contract. The Blues are happy with Rudiger’s performances since he returned from a groin injury in December 2019, and see him as a key constituent of Frank Lampard’s side going forward. They want the German international to sign a three-year extension that will also include the option of a further year. An agreement has not yet been reached as discussions have been limited due to the coronavirus crisis.

According to widespread reports, Bundesliga clubs Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are among elite sides in Europe monitoring the former Roma and Stuttgart centre-back's situation at Stamford Bridge, but it's almost guaranteed that Rudiger will put pen to paper at the west London club. The 27-year-old has played 16 times for Chelsea this season, scoring twice, making it six goals in total since he secured a move from the Serie A back in 2017.
