Thiago Silva Contemplating Homecoming to Fluminense
Veteran Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is keeping his cards close to his chest amid ongoing speculations that he might make an emotional return to his childhood club, Fluminense, next summer.
Arriving at Chelsea in 2020, the 39-year-old Brazilian swiftly became a linchpin in the club's defence, contributing significantly to their 2021 Champions League victory.
Despite his age, Silva remains a vital asset in the plans of several Chelsea managers, including the current head coach, Mauricio Pochettino, who has started the seasoned defender in every league match this season.
However, with his contract expiring at the end of this season, the former PSG player's future at Stamford Bridge hangs in the balance. For now, he's choosing to remain tight-lipped on the matter.
Addressing the ongoing rumours, Silva stated to Globo Esporte as the Mail Sport quoted: "This relationship has been going on for a long time. But I prefer to remain silent at this moment, as there has already been some controversy in the recent past."
He continued: "I now have a family, I have children. So we have to think about this aspect too. It’s about seeing where things can bring us happiness, to finish this beautiful and successful career that I believe I have achieved."
Silva came close to a homecoming last summer when Fluminense, where he previously accumulated 143 appearances in three years and secured the Copa do Brasil, allured him. Fluminense's president, Mario Bittencourt, and former striker, Fred, made persuasive overtures to encourage him to rejoin the club before his retirement.
