Dalot Reflects on Draw at Ipswich: "We Could Have Done Better"

Diogo Dalot admitted Manchester United's 1-1 draw at Ipswich was a fair result but expressed frustration at his team's inability to control the game after taking an early lead. Speaking after the match, Dalot acknowledged that while the result wasn’t a disaster, United had the chance to impose themselves more but fell short in key moments.

"We could have done better," Dalot said, reflecting on the performance. "We could have controlled much more of the game, especially after conceding the goal. We had the spaces but couldn’t find the moment to do it. If we are controlled with the ball, we can be closer to winning the game."

United’s early promise, sparked by Marcus Rashford’s goal in the second minute, quickly faded as Ipswich found their rhythm. The home side equalised just before halftime through Omari Hutchinson, and despite some late pressure from the visitors, Ipswich defended resolutely to earn a well-deserved point.

Dalot’s comments highlighted the frustration within the United camp, especially in a game where they had been gifted the perfect start. The defender pointed out that after Ipswich equalised, United struggled to impose themselves on the match and couldn’t find the cohesion needed to push for a second goal.

On the tactical side, Dalot was quick to praise new manager Ruben Amorim, who was taking charge of his first Premier League match after replacing Erik ten Hag. Amorim’s style was clearly already making an impact on the squad, but Dalot was realistic about the challenges of implementing new ideas on short notice.

"We just need to be ready," Dalot continued. "For the standard of this club, we have to get information really quick. We have only been together with the international players for two or three days, so you have to give credit to everyone."

Despite the limited time to adjust to Amorim's tactics, Dalot insisted that the new manager had already made a clear impression on the squad. "He has impacted straight away. The way he transmits ideas is really clear. We just need to put it into practice now."

The game at Ipswich was a mixed bag for United, and Dalot's words reflect the sense that more is expected from the team. While it was a solid debut for Amorim, the defensive struggles and missed opportunities in attack will need to be addressed if United are to begin moving up the Premier League table.

Key Takeaways:

  • Dalot’s Reflection: "We could have controlled more of the game."

  • On Amorim’s Influence: "He has impacted straight away; ideas are clear."

  • Team’s Challenge: United need more cohesion and control, especially after conceding.
