Elanga - Erik Ten Hag putting Man United players through their paces.

Updated: Aug 7, 2022

Elanga made his breakthrough last season, making 27 appearances in all competition.

Anthony Elanga says Erik Ten Hag is putting the Manchester United players through their paces in pre-season after noticing they were not fit enough last season.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick planned to utilise the so called 'gengenpressing' system last term but that never materialised and United prodigy Elanaga admitted the players’ fitness was an issue.

“We know we weren’t as fit last season,” the 20-year-old said. “I think we're even fitter this season, running for the team, running off the ball and running with the ball.

“That element of running and pressing is really important. That’s one of the things the manager has brought into the team and we are really buying into it. I feel like the whole team can press. It’s all in the mind - if you want to do it, you can do it. It’s a new style that we’ve got. It’s different now.”

Elanga, who made his breakthrough last season, making 27 appearances in all competitions, also explained that the Red Devils have to impress the new manager to get into his starting eleven.

“I feel like everyone wants to impress, especially now we’ve got a new manager, new system and a new style,” the Swede added.

“It's important everyone tries to impress and it starts in pre-season.”
