Lampard has confirmed that Edouard Mendy is on the verge of signing for Chelsea.
Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is undergoing a medical with Chelsea as he gets ready to join the west London club, manager Frank Lampard has revealed.
The 28-year-old will battle with Kepa Arrizabalaga for the spot between the sticks at Stamford Bridge.
Kepa has come under immense scrutiny following a series of mistakes with the Blues.
"We have brought Mendy in for that competition," Lampard said as BBC Sport quoted.
"I don't know what benefits in the long run, football is in your hands.
"Competition is a regular thing. It's in everyone's hands to get into the squad."
Lampard also confirmed technical director Petr Cech was key in making the deal happen. "Petr was important in that because goalkeeper is a very particular position and Petr Cech obviously knows that role very well," he said. "And Petr will obviously have a big say in this situation from my point of view, and I lean heavily on him. So he was very influential."
Senegal shotstopper Mendy made 34 appearances for Rennes since joining the Ligue1 club from Reims in the summer of 2019
