Guardiola Confirms Rodri's Season Has Ended

Updated: Sep 28, 2024

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that key midfielder Rodri will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to an ACL injury. Speaking to the press on Friday afternoon, Guardiola shared the news after Rodri underwent surgery this morning.

"Surgery this morning, ACL, and next season he will be here. This season is over," said Guardiola. "Unfortunately, we got the worst, but these things happen. We will be there to support him in his recovery step-by-step."

Rodri, a crucial part of City's midfield since his arrival, has been irreplaceable in Guardiola's system. The manager acknowledged the challenge of losing such a pivotal player but remained optimistic about the team's ability to adapt.

"What he gives us, we don’t have a similar player," Guardiola admitted. "But the others can all together replace what Rodri has given since his arrival. We will have to do it as a team and find a way to play a lot of matches without an important player for us."

Rodri's absence leaves City with a significant void in midfield as they look ahead to crucial domestic and European fixtures. The team will now have to recalibrate and push forward without one of their most reliable performers.

Manchester City fans and teammates will undoubtedly be hoping for a speedy recovery for Rodri, as they aim to finish the season strong despite this setback.
