Guardiola Reflects on Community Shield Triumph and Eyes Future Success

Pep Guardiola praised Manchester City's performance in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United, which they ultimately won 7-6 on penalties to secure the Community Shield.

The Manchester City manager expressed his satisfaction with the victory, highlighting the importance of starting the season with a title. Guardiola remains optimistic about the upcoming season, focusing on maintaining momentum and building on this early success.

Speaking to ITV, Guardiola said, "I enjoyed the game against our rivals in Manchester, and to start the season with a title is good. We are really pleased."

He acknowledged the challenges posed by United, particularly their dangerous transitions, but was proud of his team’s resilience. "We lost a lot of balls, and their transitions are some of the best in the world, very difficult to control. But in the end, we did it," Guardiola noted.

Reflecting on the significance of the match, he added, "It is nice to play this game because it means you won something in the previous season. Now we focus on the next game, one step at a time."

Guardiola also praised individual performances, particularly Manuel Akanji, who scored his penalty despite past misses, and Ederson, whom he considers one of the team's best penalty-takers alongside Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne.

He was equally impressed with Oscar Bobb’s contribution, saying, "What a moment. He is really good in small spaces and his work ethic is excellent. He’s aggressive in both short and long spaces."
