The former Napoli and PSG scored his first goal for United in their 3-1 win against Everton last weekend.
Cavani could make his first start when United take on West Brom next weekend.
Former Chelsea and Tottenham star Gus Poyet has lauded Edinson Cavani, saying the Uruguay international could become 'more important' than people think at Manchester United this season.
The 33-year-old, who joined the Red Devils on a free transfer on deadline day, hasn't started a match for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team but opened his goalscoring account with a late strike against Everton at Goodison Park last weekend.
It is believed the former Napoli and PSG star could make his first start in United's next fixture against West Brom this weekend.
However, Poyet reckons his compatriot, who scored the opener in Uruguay's 3-0 win against Colombia in their World Cup qualifier on Friday, has all the attributes to succeed with the Premier League giants.
While speaking to the Daily Mail, Poyet said: "I think he is going to be more important for Manchester United than people think.
"Look at the last game at Everton. The result was in the balance, he came off the bench, once chance and bang.
"English football is perfect for Uruguayans because we are passionate. Once we sign a contract, we forget about it because the only thing that matters next is winning. English fans love that."
Poyet added: "He makes an incredible amount of runs.
"Maybe he makes an unbelievable run and the ball isn't played. The fitter he gets, the more he understands United's play, the more he will play."
