In an unexpected twist of fate, Jonny Evans expressed his sheer delight at making a remarkable return to Manchester United.
After rejoining the club on transfer deadline day, the seasoned defender made his second debut during United's Premier League clash with Arsenal. Evans, who initially came through the ranks at Old Trafford, struggled to put into words the emotions he felt when donning the United shirt once again.
"It's hard to put into words," Evans admitted when asked about his second debut as BBC Sport quoted. "It was obviously, an amazing experience and feeling to put the shirt on again and get back out onto the pitch. I wasn't expecting to come on, to be honest, but obviously, we have a few injuries in defence at the moment, so my second debut came about a bit quicker than I expected."
After becoming a free agent following Leicester City's relegation from the Premier League, Evans joined United on a short-term basis during pre-season. His impressive performances in friendly matches earned him a one-year contract, returning him to the club where he had previously won three Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Reflecting on his unexpected return, Evans shared: "It is something that has come up quite unexpectedly, and I just had to roll with it over the last month or so. It is a proud moment to re-sign for the club and come on again in the last match. I have been very fortunate to play a long time in the Premier League and manage those expectations throughout the years, dealing with different things. I'm very fortunate to have had the experience that I have had."
As he looks forward to more opportunities at Old Trafford, Evans is focused on regaining match fitness and relishing the competitive challenges ahead, including his role as Northern Ireland's captain in upcoming international fixtures.
