Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Julian Alvarez is set to leave the club, seeking a "new challenge" amid interest from Atletico Madrid.
The Argentine forward, who joined City in 2022 for £17 million, will likely move to Diego Simeone's side after City accepted an £81.5 million offer.
Guardiola expressed his admiration for the World Cupper winner, acknowledging his desire for a change and leaving the decision to pursue a replacement open.
Despite being disappointed, Guardiola wished Alvarez well, highlighting the player's positive influence at the club.
"It was a joy to work with him," said Guardiola as BBC Sport quoted. "I learnt a lot from him and hopefully he can find what he was looking for."
Guardiola continued: "He believes his period here must be over so both clubs arrive to an agreement.
"He's incredibly loved by the team for his behaviour but like I said many times for many players, he wants to leave and have a new challenge."
