Kevin De Bruyne says Man City’s 7-0 win over Leeds at the Etihad is a booster for the Cityzens.
Man City 7-0 Leeds.
The Premier League defending champions were at their best as they registered their biggest victory of the season when they played Leeds United to move clear of Liverpool and Chelsea, who both play on Thursday.
Belgium international Kevin de Bruyne was full of joy after his brace helped the Manchester City run riot over Leeds United on Tuesday night. The midfield maestro was back in full form as the Premier League defending champions ripped Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds apart with an attacking masterclass to increase their lead at the top of the English top-flight to four points. Honestly, it could have been 10-0 to City with the way they dominated and constantly eased past the Leeds defenders. Phil Foden broke the deadlock after eight minutes, following up after Rodri's effort that was saved - although Stuart Dallas should have cleared the ball, but he was all over the place. Five minutes later Riyad Mahrez’s cross from the right was nodded in by Jack Grealish to make it 2-0 and City didn’t take the foot off the pedal.
In the 32nd minute, De Bruyne joined the party by firing home a Rodri pass, making it the Belgian’s first goal since mid-October.
There was no doubt this was going to be City’s seventh straight league win, however, Pep Guardiola’s boys continued.
Mahrez made it 4-0 in the 49th minute, with a low shot that deflected off Junior Firpo, and then De Bruyne made it five with a superb volley into the top corner from distance. England defender John Stones scored the sixth before Nathan Ake nodded in City's seventh from Foden’s corner kick. And after the deserved victory, Kevin de Bruyne, told BT Sport: "A lot has happened this year, a little bit out of out of my control. The only thing I could do is work hard and come back as quick as possible. It's unfortunate with everything that has happened and at the time I was coming back I got Covid. It happened and now we are working hard to come back to a good level. "I think we played incredibly well, especially against the way they pressed. We found the right times to attack them. When were were 3-0 or 4-0 up it gets tough for them and they tried to keep it tight in the second half, but we had a lot of chances to score more. "It's good for everybody, a lot of people who maybe didn't play a lot played today and chipped in. For the whole team it is a booster."
'We found the openings at the right time'
The Man City star added while speaking to BBC Sport: "I just think we played really well as a team. We started really well and we found the openings at the right time. "It's been a great game for us. A lot of different guys scored, it gave confidence to everyone. "It [goal difference] is not something we should think about at the moment. We just need to perform well and try to win."
