The west London club confirmed that Kante picked up a hamstring injury in training on Friday.
Frank Lampard believes N'Golo Kante will return from his hamstring injury in due time.
The France international wasn't part of the Chelsea side that sealed a 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.
Goals from Jorginho, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi helped the west London side secure three points against Sean Dyches's side at Stamford Bridge as they maintained their position (4th spot) in the Premier League table.
However, Lampard spoke about how important midfield marshal Kante is to his team.
"I'm hoping short-term. He actually got through training but had an awareness of it," the Blues boss told BBC Match of the Day.
"It didn't break down as such. It's something we'll have to look at in the week ahead.
"We know how important he is for us and he's played so many games over the years regularly.
"This year, not so much – which is unfortunate for everybody here. So we'll look after him and hopefully it's not too long."
