Mohamed Salah hailed Liverpool's win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a last-gasp winner to hand Liverpool a 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon as the Merseyside club ended their four-month wait for a Premier League victory at Anfield.

The England right-back, who has come under immense scrutiny in recent weeks, got the ball on the edge of the area and fired home in the 91st minute to seal a comeback for the champions.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went a goal down to an Ollie Watkins strike late in the first half after the hosts wasted several chances earlier on.

Roberto Firmino found the equaliser moments later, but it was cancelled following a VAR review that saw Diogo Jota in an offside position during the build-up.

Then, Mohamed Salah calmed Liverpool’s nerves by hitting the net with a header just before the hour mark.

The Egyptian's goal was Liverpool’s first from open play in 12 hours and 44 minutes at home in the Premier League.

However, after Alexander-Arnold came up with the winning goal late on in the game, goalscorer Mo Salah expressed his delight while speaking to Sky Sports.

The result gives Klopp's team hope of Champions League qualification and boosts their confidence to secure another European comeback against LaLiga side Real Madrid next week.

"Finally! It was a great game, tough game but we won the game and that was the most important thing," Salah said.

"We have lost a couple of games here and mentally it was like 'oh no, not again' but we did a good job second-half.

"It's hard not to win at Anfield for a couple of games, we also missed a couple of chances in the first half and we were thinking 'not again' but the second half we managed to play good.

"It's really important to win. I think there are only seven games left? So it's really important. We want to play Champions League next year but we just need to focus on each game and try and win them all and hopefully, we can be in that fourth place."

On Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salah explained: "I think he just needs to push himself. He's been training well and he's played really well the last couple of games. He just needs to try and keep focused - don't listen to anyone, just try as hard as you can and it will come."
