Klopp's Concerns Emerge Despite Liverpool's Europa League Win, Says Michael Owen
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory over LASK in the Europa League, yet former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes that the manager may have "slight concerns" despite the win.
The Reds found themselves trailing once again, as Florian Flecker's superb strike gave the Austrian side a shock first-half lead in the group stage opener in Linz. Liverpool, who have displayed a tendency to fall behind but recover this season, equalised through Darwin Nunez's penalty before Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah secured the victory.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Owen voiced his observations on Klopp's mindset: "I think he will be slightly concerned. He will probably be looking at it like why has that happened? Is it a coincidence, or is it happening too much to draw some conclusions from it? But the overriding feeling would be a bit of relief."
Indeed, while Klopp may have concerns about the recurrent setbacks, he is also pleased with the character displayed by his team. Owen remarked: "It is a great first result, getting three points away from home and being in a really good position. He will be delighted, but a few little concerns about why it is happening all the time."
Liverpool now shift their attention to maintaining their unbeaten start to the 2023-24 Premier League campaign, with four wins and a draw under their belt. The Merseyside Reds host David Moyes' West Ham at Anfield on Sunday, with both teams having been in Europa League action on Thursday.
