Luis Diaz and Mo Salah Score as Liverpool Defeat Brentford

Liverpool secured a victory in Arne Slot's first Premier League home game as manager, beating Brentford 2-0 to maintain their winning start to the 2024-25 season.

Luis Diaz marked his 100th appearance for Liverpool with a clinical finish in the 13th minute, capitalising on a swift counter-attack led by Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota. Salah then sealed the win in the 70th minute with a well-taken left-footed goal, his second of the season.

The atmosphere at Anfield was electrifying, with fans showing strong support for Slot, symbolising the excitement of the post-Jurgen Klopp era. Owner John W Henry attended the match, highlighting the significance of Slot's first home win.

While the Merseyside Reds showed promise and energy under their new manager, there were moments of vulnerability. Brentford came close to equalising, with chances for Christian Norgaard and Nathan Collins, but were ultimately unable to find the target.

Liverpool's relatively unchanged squad reflects Slot’s trust in his players, which seems justified with back-to-back wins. However, concerns remain about how the team will cope with the dual demands of the Premier League and Champions League as the season progresses.

Brentford, meanwhile, were competitive throughout but missed the presence of key striker Ivan Toney, who was absent due to ongoing transfer speculation.

Despite the loss, Brentford demonstrated their resilience, and upcoming home fixtures will be crucial as they face a series of challenging away games against top-tier opponents.
