"I haven't spoken to anyone, to be honest." Those were the words of Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne, putting an end to speculation about his future at the Etihad Stadium for now.
The Belgian playmaker, who has been a crucial part of City’s success since his arrival in 2015, confirmed that he did not hold discussions with any other clubs over a potential summer transfer, despite rumours of a move to Saudi Arabia.
De Bruyne, 33, admitted he had considered his options after being linked with a lucrative switch at the end of last season. However, he quickly clarified that no concrete discussions ever took place.
Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, he explained: “There has been a lot of noise and news. I said in the summer I expect a quiet summer and that's actually what happened. I've been on holiday for four weeks, came back and started training. That was it. Nothing to tell. I've not been entertained by anybody or spoken to anybody."
These statements come as a relief to Manchester City fans, who regard De Bruyne as one of the club’s most influential figures. His commitment aligns with the stance of manager Pep Guardiola, who had consistently asserted that De Bruyne was not for sale.
De Bruyne joined Manchester City from German club Wolfsburg in 2015, a year before Guardiola’s arrival, and has since become an integral part of the team’s midfield, contributing to multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups, and a historic UEFA Champions League victory.
Despite being open to discussing his future with his family, it seems De Bruyne is content to continue his career at the Etihad, focusing on adding to his already impressive list of achievements with City.
