Man City defender Nathan Ake: "It is very important to see out games."

Debutant Ake was delighted with Man City's resilience against Wolves.

Defender Nathan Ake was pleased with the way Manchester City’s defence was resilient against Wolves on Monday night.

Pep Guardiola's Cityzens thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 at the Molineux stadium but they were under pressure in the final 10 minutes when the score was 2-1.

Belgium international Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Phil Foden increased the lead in the 32nd minute.

Raul Jimenez halved the deficit with 12 minutes to go, putting City under pressure, but an injury-time goal from Brazil striker Gabriel Jesus wrapped up the win.

However, Ake - who joined City from Bournemouth this summer - was happy his side didn't falter to Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

“I think it’s very important to see out games,” he said when asked about City’s resilience as mancity.com reported.

“We know sometimes it’s going to be tough like this in the season, especially at places like this. To be defensively strong is important and then we have the quality up top.”

Ake also said City were keen to start the 2020/21 Premier League campaign in flying colours, adding that he was 'very happy' to make his debut for the Etihad club.

"I was very happy to make debut today and happy that we won," said the Dutchman.

“Of course, we wanted to start strong in the new season, Obviously, Wolves is a tough place to come so we're very happy with three points.

“We just tried to play with the ball, keep the ball, make it difficult. We scored early, that was a bonus for us. After that, we tried to control the game.

“Obviously in the second half, they came out a little bit more and made it more difficult. When they got the goal we had to stay strong and defensively good and we got that in the end.

"[In the second half] they pressed us a little bit higher, they were more direct, they tried to get balls and crosses in the box.

"Most occasions we deal with it well but a few occasions not so well. The goal we're disappointed with but I was happy that we won."
