Man City's John Stones: "It's really a happy dressing room."

Man City registered 11 points from five matches, three more than second-placed Borussia Dortmund in Group G of Europe's elite competition.

John Stones lauded his Manchester City teammates for their effort as they became Group G winners in the 2022-23 Champions League campaign after playing out a goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund.

Both City and Dortmund shared the spoils at the Signal Iduna Park last night, meaning Pep Guardiola's Cityzens secure the top spot with one game left to play.

The Bundesliga giants, in second place, also qualified for the knockout stages, trailing City [11 points] by three points after five matches.

Regardless of the result in the final group games, Man City cannot be leapfrogged because of their head-to-head record against Dortmund.

It's the 10th consecutive season Man City are qualifying for the UCL round of 16, and England centre-back Stones says the consistency from the squad is a plus.

"Topping the group is always our goal."

"I think topping the group is always our goal from the start of the season. A lot of tough teams in the group as well," Stones told Man City's official website.

"To keep recreating that and topping the group, getting through to the next stage is massive for us as a club and a team. It's really a happy dressing room after the game.

"It's not easy to do. It's something I'm extremely proud of and the lads are as well. To do it with one game to go is something special."

Manchester City have not conceded a loss in 16 of their last 17 UEFA Champions League games against German oppositions (won 14, drew two, lost one), only losing to RB Leipzig [2-1] back in December 2021.
