Man Utd boss Ten Hag keen for summer progress.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has amplified how important this summer’s transfer window is as he looks to improve on the progress made from his debut season as manager at Old Trafford.

In Ten Hag’s first season as United boss, The Red Devils won the Capital One Cup and secured a top-four finish and missed out on the FA Cup on Saturday as local rivals City thrashed them 2-1 in the final at Wembley.

Speaking to the media after their narrow FA Cup final loss to Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, Ten Hag insists bridging the gap between the 2022-23 season and next term will be vital if the Red Devils want to move forward and start competing for major honours consistently.

“I think it’s not Manchester City now [who are the ones to beat], there are seven, eight competitors in the Premier League,” he said as manutd.com reported.

“We have to analyse the season and what we have to do better, and then from July go again.

“[Our 2022/23 success] creates expectations, but we have to do better and we have to make progress during the summer.

“That means we have to demand much more from the players if we want to compete like we did today and to not only compete but also win.”

Ten Hag's Reds will resume pre-season action on Wednesday 19 July against French club Olympique Lyonnais at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
