Solskjaer’s Red Devils beat top-four rivals Sheffield United on Wednesday evening as they closed the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to two points.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer liked how Manchester United got the job done when they hosted Sheffield United at Old Trafford.
Anthony Martial helped United return to winning ways as his hat-trick sealed a 3-0 victory against Chris Wilder’s lacklustre Blades on Wednesday evening.
The France forward struck twice in the first half before wrapping up the first hat-trick of his career with a brilliant strike 16 minutes from time, taking his tally to 19 goals in all competitions this season.
Martial became the first United player to score three times in a league match since Robin van Persie did so against Aston Villa in 2013, the 3-0 win that secured the title for the United in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in charge.
Following the victory, United boss Solskjaer told Sky Sports he wants his team 'to be progressive and aggressive with' their 'final passing'.
The Norwegian said: “I enjoyed the way we set about the job. It was warm but the pressing was really good - we kept Sheffield United away from playing their own game.
“That was important. The build-up into the last pass or finish was good but we need to do better with all the spaces we created. I expect them to take the moments, thankfully it didn't cost us today.
“Today we created enough to win by more. In other games we've created enough but haven't won them. We need to be progressive and aggressive with our final passing.”
On Martial, Solskjaer added: "I am very happy for Anthony. We have worked with him getting in the box. The first goal, I think that's a vital goal with they way he turned and got himself into a position to score from Marcus' cross.
"He's getting into those positions more and more. He is in good form."
