Kylian Mbappé Shines in Real Madrid Debut, Secures 2-0 UEFA Super Cup Victory Against Atalanta
Kylian Mbappé made an impactful debut for Real Madrid, scoring in their 2-0 win against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup, earning the club a record sixth title.
Despite a sluggish first half where Atalanta controlled the game and nearly scored, Real Madrid turned things around after a halftime tactical adjustment.
Federico Valverde opened the scoring, followed by Mbappé’s goal, set up by Jude Bellingham, who became more influential in the second half.
This victory gave coach Carlo Ancelotti his 14th trophy with Real Madrid, further cementing their European dominance.
Even with key players out due to injury, Real Madrid’s performance showcased their depth and signalled their potential for the upcoming season.
Following the match, Real Madrid's new addition Mbappe told Movistar: "It was a great night. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time.
"To play with this shirt, with this badge, for these fans, it's a gift for me.
"We won a trophy too, that's very important. We know that here we always have to win and I am very happy."
Madrid boss Ancelotti expressed his delight to TNT Sports: "Difficult game. The second half is much better. We had more space in front and we showed our qualities. In the first half we had a lot of difficulties. Atalanta played very well.
"We're happy, it's the first game of the season and we've started well. Mbappe did really well. Of course, we have a lot of quality but we have to be able to play together. We did tonight. This is good for us."
