Mertesacker reveals how he's looking to give Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta some selection headaches.

Mikel Arteta must be thinking "What's going on?" in the Arsenal academy with the kind of quality coming through the ranks.

Ex-Arsenal centre-back Mertesacker is keen to provide young quality players for the club’s first team.

Per Mertesacker can’t wait to give Mikel Arteta a lot of 'selection headaches' with the young stars coming through the Arsenal academy. The Gunners academy boss Mertesacker is embracing the challenge of providing the north London club with quality young players. Over the years the likes of Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock, Eddie Nketiah, and Bukayo Saka come through the Arsenal ranks, and Mertesacker wants that trend to continue. "We are really keen on giving Mikel Arteta a lot of headaches, you know," the former Germany international Mertesacker told Ian Wright on his YouTube channel for Adidas Home Team.

"He must be thinking, 'What's going on in the academy?' Every year there is the potential two, three players who can step onto that court. "But I know his standards, I know what he stands for, so I need to prepare the players really well so when they step into the first-team environment they are ready and prepared."
