Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has announced his intention to discuss a new contract with the club once the current transfer window has concluded.
Arteta, whose contract expires at the end of this season, has downplayed any concerns about the timing of these discussions, emphasising his strong relationship with the club’s management.
Arteta explained that the club’s focus has been squarely on transfer activities. “The focus has been on the transfer window. We had quite a lot of things to do and discuss,” he stated. Arteta reassured fans that contract talks would take place at the right moment.
Since his appointment in 2019, Arteta has guided Arsenal to two consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League. He expressed gratitude for the support and collaboration he has received from the club’s hierarchy.
“I am very grateful for where I'm sitting and the people I work with every single day,” Arteta said. He noted the harmony and shared vision within the club, which he believes is key to continued success.
This transfer window has seen significant activity for Arsenal, including the acquisition of Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori for £42 million and the sale of Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham, which could reach £34 million. The club is also pursuing Real Sociedad's Mikel Merino and is in discussions with Nottingham Forest over a potential move for forward Eddie Nketiah.
Although Arteta did not delve into specifics about ongoing transfer negotiations, he highlighted the importance of being prepared for unexpected developments. “You have to be ready, especially in the last week of the transfer window,” he said. Arteta stressed the need for the club to stay alert and adaptable as the transfer deadline approaches on August 30.
Once the transfer window closes, Arteta will shift his focus to securing his future at Arsenal, confident in the team's direction and eager to continue building on the progress made under his leadership.
