Jose Mourinho says he knew the quality of Tottenham striker Harry Kane and he was confident that he would get the best out of the England international.

Mourinho also revealed that he had a plan for Kane, and had no doubt the Englishman would become a very dangerous player in his Spurs side.

The 27-year-old has already scored 13 goals and registered 10 assists in 14 games in all competitions so far this season.

"I was never worried about it," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

"I knew the quality of the player, I knew I had a plan for a certain style of play. We discussed it a lot internally.

"I knew Harry wouldn’t have any problem in a team like ours, so for us, it was never a question."

The former Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester United boss trusts that Kane will ultimately exceed Jimmy Greaves' goalscoring record [266] at the north London club.

As things stand, Kane has 201 goals, 65 behind Tottenham legend Greaves.

"He's a young guy. Of course, he will make it," the Portuguese added.

"He has so many years to play so I don't think it's a problem. It’s just a question of time. When is the only question."

Spurs remain unbeaten in seven league matches since they lost to Everton in their opening game of the 2020-21 campaign, however, Mourinho insists he is focussed on securing a win against Manchester City on Saturday.

“I just want to get to 20 points after the match,” Mourinho added.
