Guardiola knows how important a healthy Aguero will be for City's 2020-21 campaign.
City have struggled to score goals so far this season and Aguero's absence hasn't helped at all.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists the Cityzens must give Argentina striker Sergio Aguero time to return to full fitness to prevent more problems.
Aguero, who returned from a five-month layoff after undergoing knee surgery, played only three matches before picking up a hamstring injury.
Despite City's desire for Aguero to return to action, Guardiola says they will have to be careful with how they use the 32-year-old going forward.
"I'm not going to say that we don't need Sergio, we need him," Guardiola explained following their defeat to Jose Mourinho's Spurs.
"But Sergio, who is 32, was out for five months with a dangerous and difficult injury. He came back and played 50 or 55 minutes and he is injured again.
"We want him and I want Sergio fit because I'm not just discovering now how important he is for us.
"But we have to be careful [to make sure he does] not come back and get injured again. You have to see the right moment to put him in again and hopefully it can be soon and he can maintain the regularity to play games."
