Sergio Aguero could return to the Manchester City squad ahead of their Premier League clash against champions Liverpool this weekend, according to Pep Guardiola.

The Argentine striker Aguero missed the Cityzens' last two matches against Marseille and Sheffield United after sustaining an injury in their 1-1 draw at West Ham on October 24.

It has been confirmed he will not be part of the side that will face Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday.

However, manager Guardiola did not verify if the 32-year-old will be available for selection in Sunday's tie against the Merseyside club.

When quizzed if Aguero could face Liverpool at the Etihad, Guardiola replied as the Mirror quoted: “Right now we don’t know. He’s getting better, but we don’t know.

“We don’t want him to take a step back again, but he’s getting better.

“It’s not so dangerous, like when he felt something in the last game, the West Ham game.

“So he’s getting better. I don’t know about Liverpool, but after the international break, for sure he’ll be ready.”

If Aguero isn't fit, Guardiola said he will be happy with Ferran Torres upfront.

Guardiola added: “We're awaiting Sergio, but we’ve been happy with Ferran, so we have an alternative.”
