Guardiola's Game Plan for Grealish and Thoughts on Facing Onana

Manchester, UK - Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shared his insights on the upcoming plan for England international Jack Grealish and his perspective on the Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana. In his press conference ahead of the Manchester derby, Guardiola expressed his trust in Grealish's abilities and respect for Cameroon shot-stopper Onana.

Elevating Grealish's Performance

Guardiola's plan for Jack Grealish is clear: he wants the talented midfielder to replicate his outstanding performance in their recent Champions League win against Young Boys. The City manager emphasised the trust he has in Grealish, recognising his exceptional ability and his unwavering commitment to supporting his teammates.

Guardiola stated as BBC Sport quoted: "We trust him a lot, we know the ability he has to fight for his mates in every game. We need him, we need everyone, [I'm] very pleased with [his] game." This vote of confidence showcases Guardiola's high expectations for Grealish as a key part of the team.

Respect for Andre Onana

Switching his focus to the upcoming match against Manchester United, Guardiola was asked about his thoughts on facing goalkeeper Onana, who previously played for Inter Milan in last season's Champions League final against Manchester City. Guardiola offered praise for the 27-year-old, describing him as an "exceptional player" and a "great keeper."

While acknowledging Onana's talents, the Cityzens boss also expressed his hope for a different outcome this time around, when quizzed on whether the Cameroonian will repeat the strong performance he put in playing for Inter Milan in the final of last season's Europe elite competition: "Hopefully not – hopefully we can beat him," Guardiola remarked, underscoring his team's determination to secure a victory. "He is an exceptional player. I think he’s a great keeper."
