Portugal legend says Ronaldo is not to blame for Manchester United's form.

The 36-year-old, who rejoined Man United from Serie A club Juventus during the summer, has scored 10 goals so far this season for the Red Devils.

Portugal legend Luis Figo has backed Cristiano Ronaldo and blasted critics claiming the super goal machine is to blame for Manchester United's recent shortcomings this season.

The 36-year-old, who rejoined United from Juve during the summer, has scored 10 goals so far this season for the Red Devils.

Though, United still have been below par, losing five of their last seven Premier League matches, including their most recent 4-1 defeat to Claudio Ranieri’s Watford last weekend.

The result against the Hornets at Vicarage Road led to the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the English giants are currently set to appoint the godfather of gengenpressing Ralf Rangnick.

However, ex-Real Madrid and Inter Milan forward Figo believes Ronaldo is still the best in the world and doesn't understand the criticism thrown at him.

'It does not make sense. He is the best,' the former midfielder told a Portuguese sports newspaper A. Bola after Ronaldo helped United secure a 2-0 win over Unai Emery's Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday.

'Football lives on results and the team is not achieving the expected results.

'But he's being one of the best in the team in terms of performance, so I don't understand these criticisms.'

Ronaldo's goal against Unai Emery's Yellow Submarine made him the first-ever player to score in each of an English club's first five matches of a single European Cup or Champions League season (aside qualifiers).
