James Reece is pleased to have England forward Raheem Sterling on his side at Chelsea FC.

The Blues defender admitted that he is happy he will no longer play against Sterling, who he labelled a ‘nightmare opponent’.

The 27-year-old joined the West London club from Premier League champions Manchester City for a reported fee of £47.5m on Wednesday and has resumed training with his new teammates in the U.S.A.

Speaking from Chelsea’s pre-season training camp in Los Angeles, James told the club’s official website: “Playing against him is a nightmare, so I’m pretty happy that he’s here now and I don’t need to play against him anymore!

“The way he plays, he’s so small and sharp. He looks small but you don’t realise how strong he is. He never stops and is always trying to run in behind and stuff.”

The 22-year-old continued: “I remember he had a good game in the Champions League final. It was an even battle – he beat me a few times and I won duels a few times as well, so it was a tough game between us.”

Gallagher: Sterling, a brilliant signing for the Blues

Another Chelsea player who is happy with the signing of Sterling is Conor Gallagher.

The Chelsea academy graduate has returned from a successful season-long loan at Crystal Palace and is looking forward to the 2022-23 campaign with Sterling in the side.

"I think it's brilliant. It will only benefit Chelsea and himself," Gallagher said.

"Everyone's very excited for him to be playing and I know the fans are very excited as well. He's a great professional, very relaxed off the pitch, and does the right things.

"I feel like the young lads feel like they can talk to him as well because he's got a lot of experience in England and in the Premier League. So yeah, it's a massive signing, and I'm sure he's going to do his thing when he's here."
