Ruben Amorim Confident in Bold Vision for Man Utd Debut at Ipswich

Amorim: "We Will Do It Our Way" – New Manchester United Manager Talks Bold Vision Ahead of Ipswich Clash

Ruben Amorim, the newly appointed head coach of Manchester United, held his first press conference after taking charge of the club, following Erik ten Hag’s sacking.

The 39-year-old former Sporting CP boss has inherited a squad in the midst of turmoil, but he remains confident in his approach, and during his address to the media, Amorim shared his vision for the team moving forward.

The upcoming fixture against Ipswich Town is set to be Amorim's first official match in charge of United. And while he acknowledged that the squad is currently set up for a system different from his own, the Portuguese coach was unwavering in his belief in the way he wants his team to play.

"We Will Adapt, But Stick to Our Way"

When asked about his plans for Sunday's game, Amorim made it clear that his philosophy would take precedence. “As a coach, you have to choose one way or another," he said. "I always, 100%, [do it] our way. I prefer to risk but push in the first moment. Since the first moment, I believe so much in our way of playing, there’s no second way."

This bold statement is likely to resonate with Man United supporters who have long yearned for a clearer identity on the pitch. Amorim’s commitment to playing an attacking style of football, where risk-taking and high intensity are key components, marks a stark contrast to the cautious approach that has plagued the team under previous management.

However, Amorim also admitted that while he would remain true to his vision, some adaptation would be necessary. "We will adapt some players because we don’t have the right profiles as this squad was set up for a different system," he explained. "When you see the team on Sunday, it will be similar players, but in the game it will be different."

This could be a reference to some players, who may need to adjust their roles or positions to suit his tactical setup. It also signals that Amorim is fully aware of the need to make practical changes while ensuring the team remains competitive.

The 'Impossible Job' Question

Naturally, the topic of taking on the Manchester United job—often dubbed "the impossible job" by pundits and critics—came up. Amorim responded with confidence, making it clear that he does not view it as an insurmountable challenge.

"Of course not, I truly believe that. Call me naive, I truly believe I’m the right guy for the right moment. I’m not worried about that," he said, exuding a calm yet determined confidence. Despite inheriting a team sitting mid-table with underwhelming performances so far, Amorim seems unshaken by the pressure that comes with managing one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Facing a Big Challenge with a Unified Approach

When asked about the biggest challenge he would face, Amorim reflected on the different types of managers who had previously been in charge at Old Trafford.

He noted that there had been a diverse range of coaching styles, from accomplished managers like Louis van Gaal and José Mourinho to Erik ten Hag, who had worked outside the traditional top leagues. Amorim was keen to acknowledge that every manager brings their own approach, but the key would be to "win games" while implementing his own style.

“We have to acknowledge we need time, but we also have to win games, and that is it," he said. "You have different types of coaches, same result. We will try to do it in our way.”

As Amorim prepares for his debut match against Ipswich, it’s clear that he’s ready to take on the challenge with a clear vision. He’s set his sights on bringing something fresh and new to United, even if it takes time.

The question now is: Can Ruben Amorim make his mark on the squad and deliver the success Manchester United fans are craving? We'll start finding out on Sunday.
