Ryan Gravenberch Thriving Under Arne Slot's Tactical Approach at Liverpool
Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has expressed his satisfaction with how Arne Slot’s tactical system is allowing him to flourish this season.
After a slow start to his Anfield career, the 22-year-old Dutchman is finding his feet under Slot's guidance, playing a pivotal role in the Reds' early Premier League success.
Slot, who succeeded fan-favourite Jurgen Klopp this summer, has had a seamless transition, winning his first three Premier League matches without conceding a goal. Gravenberch, deployed primarily in the No. 6 role, has been a key figure in this transformation. His standout performance came in Liverpool’s commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, where the midfielder dominated in the middle of the park.
Reflecting on his improved form, Gravenberch spoke to SoccerNews.nl about how Slot’s tactics have helped unlock his potential. "There were times when I’d only touched the ball once in the first five or six minutes," Gravenberch said. "Now I’m getting on the ball more often, and that makes a big difference. Slot saw that, and it’s worked out well. Everyone is praising him."
Gravenberch joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich for £35 million last year but struggled to make an impact under Klopp, starting just 12 games in his debut season. Now, with Liverpool opting not to sign a traditional No. 6 in the summer, Gravenberch has taken on the role, starting every league match so far this campaign.
After making 26 appearances for Liverpool last season but failing to feature in the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 run to the semifinals, Gravenberch is now poised for a more prominent role at both club and international levels.
Under Slot’s guidance, the Dutchman appears ready to reach new heights, with his confidence growing as he adapts to the tactical demands of his new manager.
