Salah Aims to Enjoy His Football Now and Let the Future Decide
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is prioritizing his enjoyment of football this season rather than getting caught up in contract discussions.
The 32-year-old’s current deal with Liverpool runs out next summer, and despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Salah is choosing to focus on the present.
Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017 for £34 million, has made a huge impact, scoring 213 goals in 351 appearances, placing him fifth among the club’s all-time leading scorers. Last September, Liverpool turned down a substantial £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad, showing his importance to the team. Despite this, Salah is in no rush to make a decision about his next steps.
Talking to Sky Sports, Salah shared his thoughts: “Before the season, I was just like 'I've got one year left, let's just enjoy it and don't think about the contract'.
“I don't want to think about next year or the future, I just want to enjoy the last year [of my contract] and let's see." The Egyptian added, "The most important thing is to take one day at a time and just be grateful to be here.”
In 2022, Salah signed a three-year contract extension, reportedly becoming the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history with wages over £350,000 a week. He has adapted well to life under new manager Arne Slot, scoring in Slot’s first two Premier League matches after previously only playing under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Having won every major trophy under Klopp except the Europa League, Salah is focused on making the most of his time with Liverpool now. His current mindset is about appreciating the present and letting his future decisions unfold naturally.
Whether he chooses to extend his stay at Liverpool or take on a new challenge, Salah’s main goal this season is to perform well, enjoy his football, and remain grateful for his time with the Merseyside Reds.
