Salah Reflects on Liverpool's Win and Slot's New Era

Updated: Aug 18

Mohamed Salah discusses Liverpool's opening win, and adapting to Arne Slot's new style.

Liverpool’s star forward Mohamed Salah spoke candidly about the team’s hard-fought 2-0 victory over newly promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road, highlighting the challenges faced and the optimism surrounding the new season.

Tough Conditions and a Formidable Opponent

Liverpool began their Premier League campaign under new head coach Arne Slot with a win at Portman Road. Salah, who scored Liverpool's second goal in the match, acknowledged the difficulties posed by Ipswich and the warm weather.

“It was quite tough today to be fair, the weather was really warm,” Salah told TNT Sports. “It's a tough team, I'm glad we won today, I'm always happy to make a difference.”

Facing a newly promoted team, particularly one with the home advantage, is never easy. Salah noted the vibrant atmosphere and the challenge it presented: “When they play home especially it's quite tough. The crowd is always up. We knew that before the game, we're experienced, so we expected a tough game.”

Record-Breaking Form

Salah's goal against Ipswich was his ninth on an opening day of the Premier League, setting a new record. Reflecting on this achievement, he expressed his desire to continue this form throughout the season. “Hopefully I keep going like this for the whole season! I always help to try to help the team all the time, I'm always happy to score goals or assist,” Salah said.

Adapting to Arne Slot's Style

With Jurgen Klopp's departure after eight years at the helm, Salah and his teammates are adjusting to Arne Slot’s new methods and philosophy.

“It’s quite different. Jurgen was in the team for eight years, he gave everything, now it’s a new manager and new system. It’s quite different for all of us, we need to adapt. We just need to know his way of playing and enjoy the football,” Salah explained.

Salah also addressed the pressure on Slot, emphasising the importance of focusing on their performances rather than placing undue stress on the new manager.

“We don’t need to put more pressure on him, we just need to play football and enjoy our games. Let’s see in the end,” he added.

Salah has scored and assisted in 32 Premier League matches, a feat surpassed only by Wayne Rooney, who did so in 36 games.
