Tottenham's exhilarating triumph over Manchester United marked the dawn of Ange Postecoglou's tenure, ushering in a fresh era post-Harry Kane.
Amid pre-game protests against ownership, Postecoglou's arrival was met with fervent cheers. Spurs' distinct attacking flair, synonymous with the Australian coach, took centre stage in a chaotic clash against United.
Pape Matar Sarr broke the deadlock, firing in a close-range rocket early in the second half. At the 83rd-minute mark, Ivan Perisic's cross deflected off Ben Davies into the net via Lisandro Martinez, sealing Tottenham's victory.
The match saw the woodwork deny both teams, with standout moments including Guglielmo Vicario's superb save and Bruno Fernandes' shocking miss. Controversial penalty appeals went unheard, but Tottenham's unyielding attacking spirit set them apart.
'Very good and very special' win
Tottenham captain Son Heung-min told BBC Match of the Day after the win: "Very good and very special obviously. It's a special opponent, and a first home win against United in this stadium so it was really, really good. But credit to the players they gave everything from the start to the end. Almost 100 minutes so I'm very happy."
Asked about Spurs' trophy chances this season under Postecoglou, he replied: "It's too early to talk, we still have so many games. The fans were fantastic, there's no doubt about it, but it's too early because we have to give everything. We never know for the end of the season but to win something we have to give everything for the shirt.
"It's very good and everyone is very positive, looking forward to playing for this team. We have to keep going with this positive energy when we have a good time, but also when we're not having a good time."
