Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu heaped praise on Arsenal’s dominating display in their Premier League win over West Ham United on Wednesday night.

Goals from defender Gabriel Martinelli and midfield maestro Emile Smith Rowe handed the Gunners a 2-0 win over the Hammers as the north London club leapfrogged David Moyes’ side into the fourth spot.

However, Tomiyasu, who moved to Arsenal during the summer from Serie A side Bologna, was pleased with how they showed their passion against the East London club.

Speaking to Arsenal Media, he said as Arsenal.com quoted: “It was an important game for us to get fourth place, so we showed our passion and we took three points, and fourth place, so I am happy with the result.

We have to play every game to get three points, but now we have to protect fourth place and go higher, so let's focus on the next one.

When asked how tough it was against West Ham, he replied: “Like I say, it was a tough game for us but we showed our passion, authority and we wanted the three points a lot so I am happy with the result.

On playing alongside, Martinelli, who broke the deadlock in the 48th minute, the 23-year-old said: “Yes, I think he is a great player. I made an assist for him against Newcastle, I thought it would be too long but he was fast and he had the technique to score. I think he is a great player.”

“It is a shame Lacazette didn’t score.”

Alex Lacazette, whose long-term future is currently uncertain with his contract up next summer, wore the captain's armband on the night and put in a brilliant display throughout the match.

The Frenchman missed a penalty but that didn’t prevent him from troubling the visitors and afterwards, Mikel Arteta hailed the striker.

"He [Lacazette] was top today again," the Gunners manager said. "His intensity, his link-up play, his understanding of the spaces, how he makes everybody better around him.

"It’s a shame he didn’t score the goal because he really deserved a goal today.

"We’ve come a long way from difficult positions," he added. "But we have to keep believing, stay humble, go game-by-game, there are a lot of things that we have to do and we can do much better and let’s focus on that."
