Ten Hag Confirms Injuries and Talks Transfers
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount will miss Sunday's Premier League match against arch-rivals Liverpool due to injury.
The Dutchman provided an update on Hojlund’s recovery, indicating the forward could be back after the upcoming international break. “When exactly after the break? We will see how it develops during the break to get him match fit. It will take a while before he is up. He has to build some fitness,” Ten Hag said. Mason Mount’s absence also adds to United’s injury concerns ahead of the crucial fixture.
Ten Hag also addressed the transfer situation surrounding Scott McTominay, expressing mixed feelings about the midfielder’s potential move to Napoli. “I'm happy for him, but my feelings are mixed because I would prefer not to lose him. He is Manchester United in every way. Unfortunately, it is the rules. You have to do sales, and then homegrown players bring more value,” he remarked.
Looking forward, Ten Hag shared his excitement over the possible signing of Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain. The United manager believes Ugarte who completed his medical yesterday, will add much-needed balance to the squad.
“We had three number 10s. We didn’t have any more holding midfielders—we had one. So that is the idea behind signing him,” Ten Hag explained.
Reflecting on his role at United, Ten Hag acknowledged the challenges he has faced since joining the club but remains optimistic about building a successful team for the future. “I knew this was the most difficult job I would ever do in life, coming into a club with a lot of problems I had to sort.
“We inherited a history—six years, no trophies—which meant the qualities were not right. We had to build and construct and bring up to a higher level,” he said. “We are in a cycle from the start. We have young players and have to make a team from it. Now we have to make a team for the future.”
