Ten Hag Reflects on Tough Season, Urges Man United to Rebuild

Erik ten Hag Reflects on Challenging Season, Urges Manchester United to Rebuild for Success

Erik ten Hag addressed Manchester United's players ahead of the 2023-24 season, reflecting on the challenges of the previous year.

Despite winning the FA Cup, United endured a difficult 2023-24 season, including a group-stage exit from the Champions League and finishing eighth in the Premier League.

There was uncertainty over Ten Hag's future, but new part-owners Ineos extended his contract. In his speech, Ten Hag emphasised the importance of investing in the team to achieve success again.

'I'm sure it (winning the FA Cup) was one of the best moments in your life,' Ten Hag said in his speech, which was published on X by@Utdfaithfuls.

'To be there at Wembley, to win a cup, that is a great feeling and we want to do it again, but we have to invest as individuals and as a team to go again.

'At the end of the day, it's you guys who did this. With the available squad, for more than one game, we achieved something big and finally, from a tough season - because it was a tough season - we made a successful season.'

He also praised Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho for their Copa America triumph with Argentina, urging the squad to adopt a winning mentality.

'We need the players who have this winning attitude coming in every day and wanting to compete and improve, so I want to bring Licha and Aleja forward,' he added, presenting the Argentine duo with some specially designed awards as he congratulated them again.

'At United, we need players with a winning mentality, players who know how to win, but also appreciate a big moment, (which is) what they achieved with their nation at the Copa America.'

Ten Hag's Red Devils will return to action on Saturday, August 10, as they clash with arch-rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.
