Timo Werner has been backed to shine at Liverpool if he leaves RB Leipzig.

Borussia Dortmund striker Timo Werner is the perfect player for Liverpool, according to Paul Lambert.

Werner scored a hat-trick for RB Leipzig in their 5-0 triumph over Mainz in the Bundesliga on Sunday, meaning he has hit the target 30 times in 38 appearances this season.

The 24-year-old, who has a £52m buyout clause in his current contract at the Red Bull Arena, continues to be linked with the Merseyside club, though, recent reports suggest Chelsea, Manchester United and Serie A giants Inter Milan are also monitoring the German hitman.

However, former Celtic and Dortmund star Lambert says Werner has all the qualities to fit into Jurgen Klopp's team at Anfield.

“I saw him playing a few years ago and he was lightning quick," Lambert said as the Mirror reported.

"His model and Liverpool's model are the same. Everybody knows the way Liverpool play, with speed, and he has certainly got that. Leipzig are a quick, quick side and he has been brought up in a similar fashion of speed.

"That is their game. So would he fit in? Yes, I have no doubt he would fit into that just because of the way the lad is and the way he plays. Speed is definitely part of the two teams' DNA.”
