Ndombele attracted Mourinho’s anger after Tottenham were seriously outplayed in the opening 45 minutes by Burnley.
Jose Mourinho insists that Tottenham’s record signing Tanguy Ndombele must improve after the Lilywhites' below-par first-half display at Burnley.
The midfield star, who joined Spurs from Ligue 1 club Lyon in a deal that could rise up to 70 million euros (£62.77million), hasn't lived up to expectations in his first season at the north London club.
Ndombele only started his third Premier League game this year and in Mourinho's eyes he didn't perform up to standard as Spurs were dominated and went a goal down in the first half at Turf Moor.
Ndombele and midfield prodigy Oliver Skipp were replaced by Giovani Lo Celso and Lucas Moura at half-time, and the Frenchman attracted Mourinho's anger after the game.
The Portuguese told Sky Sports following the 1-1 draw against Sean Dyche's men: “My thinking was in the first half we didn’t have a midfield, it’s as simple as that.
“More important than tactics is to have midfield players that want the ball, who connect the game, who press, who recover the ball, win duels and we didn’t have it. I’m not critical with Skipp at all.
“I’m not going to run away and I have to say that Tanguy has had enough time to come to a different level.
“I know that the Premier League is very difficult, I know that some players take time, some players take a long time to adapt to a different league.
“But a player with his potential, with his responsibility, I think he has to give us more than he is giving us.”
