Tottenham have officially secured the signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for £65 million, after triggering the striker's release clause.
The 26-year-old forward has committed to a contract with Spurs until 2030, marking a significant move for both the player and the club. Solanke had an outstanding season last term, netting 19 goals in the Premier League and helping Bournemouth achieve a commendable 12th-place finish.
Spurs have been actively seeking to bolster their attacking options, particularly in the No. 9 position, following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last summer.
Solanke, who had stints with Liverpool and Chelsea earlier in his career, quickly emerged as a prime target for manager Ange Postecoglou. Despite the substantial release clause initially deterring some suitors, Tottenham were determined to bring Solanke on board.
Liverpool, Solanke's former club, will benefit from the transfer with a 20 per cent sell-on clause, potentially earning up to £9 million from the deal. The acquisition of Solanke is particularly noteworthy as his 21 goals in all competitions last season outpaced the efforts of Spurs' current forwards, including Son Heung-min and Richarlison.
Bournemouth reluctantly agreed to part with their talisman, who narrowly missed out on a spot in England's Euro 2024 squad. Solanke's arrival at Tottenham fills a critical gap left by Kane's departure, providing Postecoglou with his first natural striker option.
However, Richarlison, who currently wears the No. 9 shirt, has expressed his desire to remain at the club despite interest from other teams.
Solanke's career has come full circle, having started at Chelsea before moving to Liverpool and now joining Tottenham as he looks to make a significant impact in the Premier League.
