First goal 'unforgivable' says Solskjaer after Istanbul Basaksehir thrash Man Utd 2-1 in Europe's elite competition.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s usual response following the diabolical loss to Istanbul Basaksehir: We were not good enough.
Manchester United continued their abysmal display when they traveled to Turkey to take on Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils were all over the place and fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium, thanks to goals from Demba Ba and E. Višća.
France international Anthony Martial pulled one back for the Premier League club but they didn’t have enough in their tank to secure a draw on Wednesday.
The Norwegian is now under immense pressure and majority reckons his days are numbered at Old Trafford as they continue to look like a team heading nowhere.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Solskjaer admitted the first goal they conceded was unforgivable: "Performance was not good enough against a team that worked and ran and hit us on the break a couple of times. They scored two goals, like you do in Europe, when you do not defend well enough.
"The first one is that we play a short corner and forget about the man up top. That is unforgivable. The second one as well, we are not very well organised to counter the press. Two tough goals to give away and then we did not have enough to come back in the second half. Anthony Martial scored a good goal but the second half we threw everything at it and could not break them down.
On replacing Axel Tuanzebe at half time, he said: "Axel was on a yellow card, we needed to go for it and gamble so the card made my decision there.
"They (two losses) have set us back a lot. You get a reality check everytime you play a game of football. Nothing becomes history as quick as a football game. You don't turn up and get three points in the Champions League. They are a team well organised and we were not good enough. That is it.
"It is not to be easy to be positive now, when you have just lost the way we did but these players are good and we have a good chance on Saturday morning to get going again."
