Walker pleased with how Man City adapted well to the new ‘unknown’.

Updated: Jun 22, 2020

  • Man City only returned to action this week after three months off due to the pandemic.

  • Getting a goal at the brink of half-time was key to City beating the Gunners, says England defender Walker.

Kyle Walker was impressed with how Manchester City coped with playing behind closed doors on Wednesday evening.

The City defender, who according to The Sun is a transfer target for Serie A giants Inter Milan this summer, said playing without fans in the stadium is 'the unknown for everyone' involved, adding that 'we had to feel our way into the game'.

Pep Guardiola's men registered a 3-0 win over Arsenal at the Etihad as they resumed the Premier League in flying colours after a three-month break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was City's first game in 101 days behind closed doors at the Etihad.

Raheem Sterling's first-half opener, a Kevin De Bruyne penalty, and a late Phil Foden strike handed City three points.

"It’s the unknown for everyone and we had to feel our way into the game,” the ex-Spurs defender said as Mancity.com reported.

“Getting a goal just before half time from Raheem was key and obviously them having a man sent off was always going to help.

"The manager said we had done very well at half time. We had four one-on-ones in the first half but fair play to their goalkeeper."
