Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s had to settle for a hard-earned point.

England defender Harry Maguire says Manchester United cannot keep relying on VAR decisions following their 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns.

The United captain was already bemoaning the two points dropped after they failed to secure the win against relegation battlers West Bromwich on Sunday.

Mbaye Diagne broke the deadlock early in the game as he won the battle with Victor Lindelof and then finished off Conor Gallagher's cross with a close-range header that went past David de Gea in the second minute.

United battled hard to find their way back into the game and eventually got their reward at the stroke of half-time with a superb Bruno Fernandes volley.

Referee Craig Pawson then awarded United a penalty in the second half as Maguire went down in the 18-yard box, but the decision was overturned after consulting the VAR monitor on the sidelines.

The Red Devils dominated the majority of the clash but it was Sam Allardyce’s Baggies that looked the more likely to seal three points as chances kept going their way.

Captain Maguire also saw his late header tipped onto the post by Sam Johnstone and both teams ended up sharing spoils.

While speaking to Sky Sports after the clash, Maguire said: "We created a lot of chances - enough to win the game.

"It was tough for ourselves with the goal we conceded - for us, it was a foul.

"We played the game in their half. We can do more and improve but it's disappointing. It was a tough job against a team that defends deep.

"In the second half, we played with a great tempo.

"We were so certain it was a penalty. Not sure why they needed to send him [the referee] to a monitor. The clip was minimal but it was a penalty. It seems like the decisions are going against us.

"We can't be relying on VAR decisions - we have to improve.

When quizzed whether they're still in the title race, the England international replied: "Of course we are. We have to go again and win the next one and then the next one."
