Wolverhampton Wanderers have opened talks with Arsenal over the transfer of Ainsley Maintland-Niles.

Wolves are keen to bolster their squad this summers and the versatile Gunners star is a major target for Nuno Espirito Santo.

The West Midlands club are eager to secure a deal after defender Jonny Otto was ruled out of action for up to nine months following an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in Wolves’ Europa League win against Olympiacos earlier this month.

Maitland-Niles still has three years left on his current deal at Arsenal, but he could be surplus to requirements under Mikel Arteta, who is looking to rebuild his side.

Reports suggest the Gunners are willing to accept around £20m for the 22-year-old, who was part of the England squad that won the U20 World Cup in 2017.
